Dr. Mahesh Shenai

Dr. Mahesh B. Shenai, MSE, MBA is a board certified and fellowship-trained neurosurgeon. He specializes in the surgical treatment of movement disorders (Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia), with expertise in deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy. He serves as the director for Functional and Restorative Neurosurgery at the Inova Neuroscience and Spine Institute. Dr. Shenai has a special interest in bringing new surgical technologies to Inova and to provide the Northern Virginia community with cutting-edge care.

Dr. Brian McHugh

Dr. Brian McHugh is a neurosurgeon at Inova Fairfax Hospital and a member of Inova Medical Group. Dr. McHugh joined Inova from the Hospital for Special Surgery/Cornell University Department of Orthopedic Spine in New York, where he completed a fellowship in adult and pediatric scoliosis and spinal deformity surgery. During the course of his residency at Yale University, Dr. McHugh also completed two enfolded fellowships in both minimally invasive spine surgery and spinal deformity surgery. Dr. McHugh treats all neurosurgical conditions and has a special clinical interest in the management of complex spinal deformities with minimally invasive techniques. He focuses on identifying ways to improve quality and value in healthcare delivery and optimizing patient care.

Dr. Shani Ross

Shani Ross received her bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Howard University in Washington, DC in 2004 and her master’s and Ph.D. in biomedical engineering with a bioelectrical concentration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, in 2006 and 2013, respectively. Her current research involves studying bladder neurophysiology and working on a closed-loop neuroprosthesis for bladder control. In general, Ross’ research interests are in the areas of neural engineering and neuromodulation. In particular, she is interested in closed-loop neuroprosthesis, peripheral nerve stimulation for restoration of function, and deep brain stimulation.
